GOLD!!!!! Through the efforts of the Environmental Club and Eco-School team, Chaminade has, for 10 years running, attained federal recognition as a “GOLD-level Eco-school.” In appreciation for their hard work and dedication the Club has also received many other accolades, including the prestigious “Green Toronto Award,” the “Community Appreciation Award,” and the “Metro Grocer’s Green Apple Award.”

The Club continues to sponsor progressive eco-friendly programs including the rehabilitation of Black Creek through erosion control, riparian reforestation and garbage control programs. Furthermore, the Club maintains a recycling program which includes paint cans, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s), cell phones, printer / toner cartridges and batteries along with the traditional glass, plastic and paper.

Future goals include the addition of solar panels, wind turbine and a “green roof” for the hatchery, the construction of a walking trail along Black Creek, the continued greening of the school grounds, and the expansion of both the recycling and composting programs. Furthermore, the Club will continue to sponsor progressive eco-friendly programs including Cham’s reusable water bottles, the rehabilitation of Black Creek, and the raising and release of both Atlantic salmon and Brown trout into the Black Creek, Humber and Credit rivers.
